Why is marine cadastral data important for conservation and marine spatial planning?

GIS Portals

  • Alabama Data Portal (web site). Metadata catalog and interactive map viewer
  • Mississippi-Alabama Habitats Tool (web site). An online map viewer that identifies priority areas for protection within coastal and estuarine environments and provides parcel information associated with those priorities for Mobile Bay, Alabama

The term submerged lands is used here to refer to tidal waters lying between the high water mark and the seaward extent of the state’s jurisdictional limit, which for most states is three nautical miles (i.e., the Submerged Lands Act Boundary). See the Submerged Lands definitions page for specific terminology used in each state.

Submerged Lands Boundaries

No online data was found. However, note that “a state oil and gas lease block boundary coverage (LEAS_ST) [see below] was created from a Chart of Submerged State Lands produced by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).”1 DCNR contains the Division of State Lands (web page), which manages Alabama offshore and submerged lands (web page).
